The Matamoras Fire Department proudly protects 2500 people living in a one square mile borough located on the banks of the scenic Delaware River in Pike County Pa. The primarily residential borough of Matamoras has long been a close-knit community where “Everybody knows your name”. As such, The Matamoras Fire Department is made up of over 65 volunteers, who live, work, train, and play together. The members of our department are family.
The Matamoras Fire Department operates out of one station. Our apparatus consists of one engine, a Heavy Rescue truck, a military 4 x 4 tanker, an 85’ Tower Ladder, and a rescue boat. The department provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to our community. In 2006, our department responded to over 320 emergencies. Additionally, we house a Dive Team that is trained in Rescue & Recovery, and Cold Water / Ice Rescue tactics. We are also trained in High Angle Ropes and have a High Angle Team. Our Heavy Rescue carries Haz-Mat equipment, and we have 8-10 members who are Operations Level certified in Haz-Mat. The Pike County Foam Trailer is housed in our station as well.
Due to our close proximity to Route 84 and nearby Orange County N.Y. and Sussex County N.J., we have a solid working relationship with neighboring departments. We utilize Mutual Aid whenever the emergency dictates a need. Mill Rift, Westfall, and Milford Fire Departments from Pike County P.A., Port Jervis from Orange County N.Y., and Wantage from Sussex County N.J. are our primary mutual aid departments, and we thank them for their continued support.
